Hi, my name is Christine Rowe...
...I am associate priest here at St. Mary's. I have been in ordained ministry since 1986, serving both here in the diocese of New Westminster since 2000 and in the diocese of Oxford in England before that.
I joined St. Mary's team in September 2015 and love being here.
My ministry includes an overview of pastoral care, working with a great pastoral care team. This ministry depends on all of us playing a part in caring for others and sharing news. Much of the work is confidential and varies situation to situation. As well as heading up the team, I keep in touch with our prayer ministries and the food and driving ministries - all these depend on the generosity of volunteers.
With others, I lead worship in three care centres, I visit people in hospital and sometimes at home, and meet with folks to chat.
I coordinate the occasional offices - baptisms, weddings, and funerals - and share these with the clergy team.
As well I am deeply committed to outreach both near and far. I attend the community meal most weeks and enjoy catching up with guests and volunteers. I coordinate a new deanery group focusing on reconciliation - encouraging each other to put this high on our parish agenda. I support the refugee committee as appropriate and was quite overwhelmed when we met our refugee family in person for the first time! I believe this missional heart is a central characteristic of St. Mary's.
Over the last 18 months I've led lent and advent study groups and led and organized the quiet days. I'm part of the labyrinth guild, a real treasure here.
With the clergy team, I preside at the Eucharist and preach regularly. I love liturgy here and the music is amazing.
I was elected regional dean by my clergy colleagues. I attend some meetings at the diocesan and deanery level, and try to keep in touch with our local parishes.
I attend parish council regularly, which I enjoy.
I am working three quarter time at present during this transition time. The days I am usually at St. Mary's are Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Please feel free to contact me or leave me a message.
