Update on Freshta and Adela

Thank you to everyone for your continuing interest in the welfare of our Afghan refugee family. They have just said goodbye to visitors from England (Freshta’s sister) and the US (an aunt); we think they had a positive experience showing them around their new home city. Freshta starts a six-month contract as an administrative assistant with a law firm on June 19th, after successfully finishing a very valuable course with the YWCA which gave her many tips on the Canadian workplace.

More good news is that Adela’s eye surgery has gone well. She and Freshta have been very diligent with the eye drops prescribed. At her check-up with the surgeon, she received excellent news and can discontinue her eye drops. We hope that she will begin English language tutoring with Jan Rups Levett soon.

Adjusting to life in Vancouver has had its challenges, especially with settling the dog, Lucky.

But Freshta and Adela are so grateful to be here, and to be safe, and for all the support they have received from the people of St. Mary’s. We continue to connect with them regularly but they are also making friends and figuring out life in their new country on their own.
